A big part of our jobs as wedding photographers is location scouting. Weather if it's for an engagement shoot, a lifestyle session, or a wedding we're always on the hunt for new places and locations to photograph in. Most venue's in Vancouver host hundreds of weddings a year, so it's our mission to make sure we capture your wedding in a way that's unique to you and who you are as a couple. We love to sneak in at least one new or quirky location in every shoot. The problem with that is the longer we've been photographers the harder it gets to find places you haven't been before. That's where location scouting becomes and art. It's a skill that has to be excessed often and we take that very seriously. You'll rarely catch us taking the same road home, or if we're late, it's probably because we took a detour somewhere along the way because we spotted some building with absurd architecture or a huge field of freshly blooming flowers. This trip has been no different. Josh, in particular, has an ability to find the most bizarre places. Like this random oasis in the middle of the desert. Despite the fact my paralyzing fear of snakes meant I was running from boulder to boulder because I was convinced a snake would jump out and 'get me' I was just as equally as blown away by the beauty around me. Maybe it's because these California landscapes are so different from home. Every few minutes I seem to be dying over something I'm seeing. All this to say I've realized two things... Number one, travel is good for the soul. Number two, I couldn't image going on these adventures with anyone else other then my love.
We've vacationed a fair bit abroad in our time together as a couple. But there is one place in North America that has our hearts in a big way and that place is the desert. Neither of us can really explain why. Maybe its the fact that we live in literally the most opposite climate you could imagine. Green, rain, clouds, water, and mild are all words that describe the Pacific Northwest. These photos below show how different Palm Springs is. We chose Palm Springs because we wanted to go somewhere that would force us to relax before wedding season kicks off. Things will be chaotic in a couple weeks and we'll be photographing the hell out of our lovely city Vancouver and its lovely inhabitants getting married.
That being said, yesterday we just went for a drive. And snapped some shots. We saw lizards, saved a turtle from getting run over by a car, rode bikes, and lounged about. Heres some photos to wet your appetite and get you down to the land of intolerable heat and awe inspiring beauty. Hopefully we'll have a couple more posts up this week as we continue to explore.
We had fun today. Got to drive up to another beautiful pacific northwest (show-stopping) location to shoot some engagement photos with these two. Justin and April were troopers. We made them climb through sink hole filled woods and stand amidst smoke in order to get these photos. Can't wait for their Vancouver wedding this coming September. For now, enjoy a little preview on their photographs.
So as you just read, WE ARE GOING TO LONDON!!!
It's pretty dang exciting and we've been looking forward to announcing this for a while.
Josh is going to barber school. That's right. He wants to be a barber. He's been thinking and dreaming about it and now it's happening. He will be attending the London School of Barbering and is going to be a barbering master by the time his 9 weeks is over.
We are super stoked. We'll be leaving at the end of December and be home by April, just in time for wedding season here in Vancouver! So listen up 2014 brides: We will still be accepting bookings for 2014 Vancouver weddings while we are in London! We just might be getting creative with meetings... Skype? FaceTime?
Another exciting thing is we'll be booking portrait sessions and weddings while we're living in London! Some of the countries we'll be shooting in include England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. We'll be releasing specific dates at a later time. If you're interested in more info or are ready to book a session email us at info[at]greengingerphotography.com
For those from the Vancouver area, if you have friends or family overseas and share our work with them and they end up booking with us we'll give YOU a FREE MINI SESSION (1 hr session and 25 edited images!)
Renting a car while we were in Europe was the worst / best decision we made. There may have been a handful, or so, near death experiences but we got to see things we never would have had a chance to if we were stuck in a train.
Today I couldn't help but remember the abundance of poppies we saw while driving through Belgium on our way to Luxembourg. There is something so peaceful about poppies. I don't know if its because it brings to mind the poem we would recite in shool every rememberance day - 'In flanders field the poppies blow, between the crosses, row by row.' Or maybe it's because I just have a thing for flower fields. What ever it was I miss it.
